BAHAWALPUR: A mega project of worth Rs 350 billion would be completed in April 2018 in three phases for provision of clean drinking water to houses located in rural areas of Punjab.
Addressing a meeting here at the commissioner officer, Punjab Saaf Pani Company Chairman Kashif Padhiar said that the Saaf Pani project was a landmark achievement of the Punjab government under which potable water would be provided to rural areas of the province.
He said that water plants will be provided electricity through solar energy for six hours out of total eight hours. The plants installed under the schemes will have life span of 30 years while the installing company will be responsible for maintenance of plants for the first 5 years, he added.
He said that every house will have access to water plant within 500 meters radius. Kashif said that scientific survey is underway for the project and 5,945 samples have been collected from 2,973 villages of Bahawalpur region which comprises Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan and Lodhran districts.
Minister of State for Interior and Education Engineer Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman, Provincial Minister for Cooperative Punjab Malik Iqbal Channar, Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Capt (Retd) Saqib Zafar, MNA Parveen Masood Bhatti, MNA Sabiha Nazir, MPA Fouzia Ayub Qureshi, MPA Haseena Naz, MPA Khalid Mehmood Jajja, MPA Khalid Warren, MPA Qazi Adnan Fareed, MPA Kazim Peerzada and others attended the meeting.
