ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting here on Tuesday and commended security forces for maintaining law and order in Karachi.
Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security Nasser Janjua briefed the prime minister on the NAP implementation committee meeting that was held on Monday. He also briefed PM Nawaz on the various tasks that had been given to the relevant institutions.
During the meeting, the prime minister praised the Rangers and law enforcement personnel on maintaining law and order in Karachi. He also offered full cooperation on behalf of the federal government to the provincial government in maintaining peace in Karachi.
The participants of the meeting agreed on the point that no one should be allowed to disturb the peace of the city from abroad. It was decided in the meeting that Pakistan’s interests, integrity and security would be protected at all costs.
Participants of the meeting agreed that those who speak ill for Pakistan would have to pay the cost for it. The high-level meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Interior Affairs Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Lt General Rizwan Akhtar, Chief of Army Staff General (COAS) Raheel Sharif and Nasser Khan Janjua, among others.
On Monday, the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain had instigated his supporters to attack offices of TV channels via his address from London. He also delivered an anti-Pakistan speech and called upon his followers to ‘break’ TV channels for not providing him due coverage.
Altaf’s speech and the subsequent violence that began, was criticised by Pakistan’s leading politicians included PM Nawaz, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan, Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) Chief Mustafa Kamal and others.
